Iceland – The land of fire and ice is showing up now with small Volcanic eruption in Reykjanes – few kilometers away from the  Blue Lagoon and Grindavík town. The warning system is good and all people close to the area had been moved away. This is not affecting any airports or other areas and no ash is coming from this type of Volcanos. Reykjavik is save and all other towns but this little Grindavik town that have been evacuated more and less since November when Mother Earth start to rumble in the area. And this is not the first eruption in this area so we here in Iceland have been learning about signs from the land before something like that happens. Even the borholes in Svartsengi geothermal have been connected to the rescue team  because of the signs they show before with higher pressure few hours before the lava is coming up to the surface. This all started few years ago with earthquakes and few little volcanic eruptions. Grindavik town is a town on the southern side of the Reykjanes Peninsula and it is the closest town to this eruption area. Well this town is in the middle of all this now and all people in this little town have been moved away – all the population of almost 3800. In the vicinity of the town, the continental plates meet, but they move apart by 2-3 cm every year on average. In November 2023, there was an exception when the continental plates moved more than 2 meters apart in the middle of the town, and then a flurry of eruptions began when lava comes from below and fills the crack. It’s been like this for millions of years on and off. Volcanic eruptions have erupted throughout the centuries in the vicinity of Grindavík, and in 2023, after approximately 800 years of pause from volcanic eruptions in the area, lava flowed over 3 houses and this large crack went through the town. Some more than 1 meter wide. As of this writing in Feb 2024, all the residents have left the town while the fissure systems and possible volcanic hazards near or inside the town itself are being checked. It is believed that intense earthquakes will be harbingers of further eruptions so that there will be time to evacuate everyone before an eruption reaches the surface. This situation only applies to the town of Grindavík, other places in Iceland are safe.

After the eruption started again near Grindavik there are some webcams that is streaming live from nearby Grindavik. Blue Lagoon the healing bathing place and Svartsengi geothermal are close to Grindavik and can sometimes been seen from this live stream. Down here are some links to this live webcams.
